Person-Centered care for older people with dementia in the acute hospital
Completed
Objective
Person centered caregiving for a person with dementia must involve some understanding of the experience of people with dementia. In the last 1-2 decade, there has been a core of consensus that person-centered care (PCC) involves valuing and using people's subjective experience of illness regardless of cognitive ability, and acknowledging that the person should be the focus of care delivery and not the disease of illness. PCC for PWDs in acute hospitals not only improves clinical outcomes for patients but is also cost-effective. The results support the adoption of PCC on a wider scale for better care of PWDs.
