Closing Remarks by Associate Professor Ding Yew Yoong, Executive Director, GERI at the Singapore Population Health Symposium (29 Apr 2022)
29 April 2022

Distinguished colleagues, ladies and gentlemen, it has been my pleasure to join all of you this afternoon to witness the launch of the SingHealth Centre for Population Health Research and Implementation, and also to listen to experts in various fields sharing their insights in Life Space research.
All these findings highlight the impact that our environment has on our physical and cognitive health as we age. It is through such studies and the sharing of the findings that we can build up our know-how to understand, assess and modify factors that help people experience their life space in ways that enhance physical and mental well-being, particularly as they age.
Looking ahead, GERI will continue to engage and collaborate with our partners, such as CPHRI, to develop and engage in various Life Space research. Our research partnership in the ongoing Elderly Life Activity-Space Envelopes (or EASE) Project is a good example.
It is my hope that this variety of research will give us a better understanding of barriers that limit healthy ageing in later life. In fact, such findings will have practical applications that can help support older persons, allowing them to age in place within their communities.
I trust that this Symposium has been a catalyst to constructive conversations on this topic, and that they will lead to future collaborations that will grow our collective knowledge and capabilities to benefit seniors in Singapore.
Thank you, and I wish you a good evening ahead.
