Dr Sum’s goal is to promote healthy ageing by translating healthcare strategies and policies to practice. Her research interests are intrinsic capacity, frailty, and comprehensive geriatric assessment. Methodological interests are implementation science, advanced quasi-experimental quantitative techniques, qualitative methods, and evidence synthesis. She has spoken at conferences and symposiums across the US, Europe and Asia, and clinched ‘Gold’ for the Singapore Young Investigator Award at the 2023 Singapore Health & Biomedical Congress.
Her experience spans conducting secondary analyses of international cohorts, to evaluating the implementation and effectiveness of local healthcare interventions. She collaborates with leadership teams, healthcare workers, community partners and academics across three Regional Health Systems. She leads projects as the PI/Co-PI/Implementation Science Lead of grants totalling $4M. Her projects are shaping the implementation of care models that contribute to national initiatives like the National Frailty Strategy, Age Well SG, and Healthier SG. Her drive comes from improving the lives of older people through translational work that strengthens care delivery at scale.
