Dr Tan Woan Shin

Dr Tan is an interdisciplinary researcher with a background in economics. An experienced leader of multi-disciplinary research teams, she has collaborated with stakeholders across health services, charitable organisations, and government agencies.
To improve population health, she believes research findings must be effectively translated into practice and policy. Her research and programme evaluation work adopts a range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies to support evidence-based health services development and evaluation. She has a particular interest in geriatrics and end-of-life care, and has served on institutional and national workgroups focused on establishing programme evaluation frameworks, advance care planning, and end-of-life care strategies.
Prior to joining GERI, Dr Tan was a researcher with the Health Services and Outcomes Research Group at the National Healthcare Group, where she oversaw the department’s health systems research efforts. She received her PhD in Health Services Research from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) as an NMRC Research Fellow, and holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Economics from the National University of Singapore (NUS).
