Caregiving Burden in Foreign Domestic Workers Caring for Frail Seniors in Singapore
Completed
Objective
While the foreign domestic workers (FDW) commonly took on significant informal caregiving in Singapore, they extent of care-related stress they experienced have not been studied. This T3 work revealed three significant factors associated with caregiving burden: nationality, lack of privacy and caring for persons with dementia (PWD). FDWs who cared for PWD were 5 times more likely to experience burden while FDWs who encountered language difficulties were 5 times more likely to experience burden. Filipinos FDWs were 10 times more likely to express burden compared to their Indonesian and Burmese counterparts.
