Exploring the Utility of the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) in Foreign Domestic Workers (FDWs) Caring for Frail Seniors in Singapore
Completed
Objective
The Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI) is a common and well validated scale to assess caregiver burden. While the foreign domestic workers (FDW) commonly took on significant informal caregiving in Singapore, they extent of care-related stress they experienced have not been studied. This T2 work applied and modified the ZBI to for the FDW who cared for frail older people in Singapore. The 16-item correlation matrix was suitable for factorability, with Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin value =.85 and Bartlett's Test of Sphericity achieved statistical significance. The 4-component solution explained 60.0% of the variance, namely: Capacity to Continue Care, Emotional/Psychological Strain, Perceived Dependence, Worry about Performance. The modified/revised ZBI was promising with reasonable model-fit indices.
