Perspectives of frailty and frailty screening among health care providers in acute care settings in Singapore
Completed
Objective
Accompanying the unprecedented growth in the older adult population worldwide is an increase in the prevalence of frailty, an age-related clinical state of increased vulnerability to stressor events. This increased vulnerability results in lower social engagement and quality of life, increased dependency, and higher rates of morbidity, health service utilisation and mortality.
Early identification of frailty is necessary to guide implementation of interventions to prevent associated functional decline. Consensus is lacking on how to clinically recognise and manage frailty. To facilitate the translation of frailty screening and intervention practice, this project explores the perspectives of healthcare professionals (general surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and emergency doctors) on frailty and frailty screening, so as to develop a feasible and effective frailty screening programme for older patients in the acute care settings in Singapore.
