Life Space is a key measure of community mobility. It encompasses people’s activity and travel patterns in order to achieve self-care, employment, and other social and recreational needs. Studying the life spaces of older adults by exploring how and where they travel to meet their goals in life, will help with evaluating their health and risk of future disability. Early interventions in the health, social, and environmental dimensions, can provide seniors with greater autonomy to meet their basic needs, to build and maintain relationships, and continue contributing to society.
Focusing on the theme of "Life Space in Seniors - Integration of health, social and environmental dimensions", this Symposium will bring together researchers and professionals from a variety of disciplines to present and discuss different aspects of Life Space research and applications to population health. It will also serve as a platform to explore research collaborations on this emerging area of interest.
SingHealth RHS has been awarded the inaugural MND/URA Cities of Tomorrow R&D Programme with a funding of $2.4M from 2021 to 2023 to study Life Space among community-welling seniors. Besides SingHealth and GERI, our main collaborators, such as Duke-NUS, Singapore University of Technology and Design, Singapore Institute of Technology, Mobile Market Monitor and Urban Redevelopment Authority will also be speaking at and/or attending the event.
